TUESDAY DIALOGUES

What do global data visualisations tell us about low-carbon electricity generation?

Welcome to the 2nd June Tuesday Dialogues event to be presented by Prof Tim Florin.

What do global data visualisations tell us about low-carbon electricity generation?

Energy generation has entered a period of significant change, where overarching policies are aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Our current electricity policy settings largely assume a pathway in which renewable generation, supported by expanded transmission, storage and other firming technologies, will become the dominant source of electricity supply.

This presentation by Professor Tim Florin examines publicly available global data by utilising in particular the datasets compiled by Our World in Data (Global Change Data Lab), rather than modelling hypothetical future systems, to interrogate the performance of these policies.

Professor Florin’s professional background is in medicine and medical research rather than energy systems. He will approach the questions raised in this presentation from the perspective of a scientist examining publicly available global data on electricity production, energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The Brisbane Dialogues is the only organization in Australia dedicated entirely to acting on the polarization and toxic discourse undermining democracy, prosperity, and progress.

Donations enable us to support other organizations to have better in-person discussions, especially in lower socioeconomic and regional schools which cost more to service. (Our own event-based operations are self-sustaining, with minimal overheads.)
