


SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Professor Timothy Florin is Honorary Senior Fellow and Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland's Mayne Medical School, and a former Senior Staff Specialist at Mater Health Services in Brisbane. A physician-scientist with a career spanning clinical medicine, research and medical education, he specialises in gastroenterology with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal physiology. He helped establish the inflammatory bowel disease clinical trials program at Mater Research and has contributed extensively to national and international research collaborations, authoring 160 scientific publications with an h-index of 46. He is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and in 2023 received the Distinguished Researcher Prize from the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. Previous affiliations include the Translational Research Institute and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. While his professional background is in medicine, Professor Florin approaches energy policy questions as a scientist, drawing on publicly available global data to examine the real-world performance of low-carbon electricity systems.
