SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

An adaptable researcher, problem solver, communicator and project manager with expertise in politics and public policy, and experience across academia and the public sector. He is currently Assistant Committee Secretary at the Queensland Parliament, where he supports the Primary Resources and Industries Committee.

His ability to perform complex research tasks and produce succinct, easily comprehensible reports and briefings draws on his background as an academic and political historian. He received his DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2014 and subsequently held academic positions at Oxford and King’s College London. He is the author of numerous journal articles and policy papers covering topics from the politics of organic farming to the future of media taxation. In 2021, he was awarded a prestigious AHRC early-career researcher grant to lead a major project into the history of members of the public writing to politicians in the UK. Now based in Brisbane, he is focused on applying his research expertise in a practical policy context.

His first book, Blue Jerusalem: British Conservatism, Winston Churchill and the Second World War, was published by Oxford University Press in September 2024.

The Brisbane Dialogues is the only organization in Australia dedicated entirely to acting on the polarization and toxic discourse undermining democracy, prosperity, and progress.

Donations enable us to support other organizations to have better in-person discussions, especially in lower socioeconomic and regional schools which cost more to service. (Our own event-based operations are self-sustaining, with minimal overheads.)
