SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Academic, author and journalist. After 30 years as a journalist, 25 of them as a foreign correspondent working for the BBC, Al Jazeera and Reuters among others, I have come in from the cold. After a 400-day spell in Egypt on terrorism charges, I have made it my mission to advocate for media freedom everywhere.
