• Net zero in the domestic economy by 2050/net zero is the policy objective (leaving decarbonisation of exports aside, ie green hydrogen)
• Energy policy should always be analysed and developed through the lens of the trilemma of cost/security/environment aka equity/security/sustainability ....
• Use comprehensive costings (full system costs and externalities) to compare generation types
• Social licence issues are serious for both the mainstream renewables+gas policy and any addition of nuclear energy to the mix and will strongly influence outcomes
• Australia needs to keep exporting our relatively clean coal and gas [until ?] to fund the energy transition domestically
• The nuclear ban should be removed in order for policy to be genuinely technology-neutral and optimise investment market input
